What can you expect?
The body employs energy from three macronutrients: carbohydrates, fat, and protein. When we eat carbohydrates, what can’t be used immediately is stored as glycogen. What can’t be stored as glycogen is stored as fat. When the body depletes its simple and complex carbohydrate reserves, it turns simultaneously to its fat and protein reserves. The Ideal Protein protocol brings carbohydrate intake down to a minimum and brings fat intake down, while maintaining a normal level of protein intake. This causes the body to burn stored fat for energy while protecting lean muscle mass (protein). Because the body has fuel in the form of stored fat, you are not hungry for the missing carbs. Your pancreas can settle down and produce the optimal levels of insulin, resetting your metabolism. If you incorporate healthy eating habits into your diet when you complete the weight loss portion of the protocol, you are able to maintain your new weight without restricting calories below what is required for a healthy diet.
The high quality of protein used in Ideal Protein products allows for effective protein absorption. Without effective protein absorption, you risk burning muscle along with fat.
